THE popularity and success of Chinese SUVs in South Africa is undisputed.
While beauty and modern technology are definitely reasons for this success, they came at the right time when nice cars are so expensive and many people are facing a recession and can’t afford to pay more.
These cars come handy with all modern features, reliability at almost incredible prices.
Because, truth be told, people are not only looking for mobility, but aesthetics are crucial, your car has to look good regardless of the price and Chinese SUVs seem to understand that very well.
A lot of Chinese SUVs come with competitive warranties and service plans as well.
These brands coming out smoking hot include Haval, Chery, GWM, Jetour, BAIC, to name just a few, and they are gunning for South African market.
They have expanded their dealer networks, bringing more affordable but really nice cars to our market.
To join the list of affordable Chines SUV’s in SA is Chery-owned Chinese brand Omoda Street.
The Omoda Street was initially selling for over R400 000 but in a fight for lower prices, they reduced the price by R88 000.
As if that wasn’t good enough for customers, they went further down and reduced it by R35 000. Now if that’s not a good bargain, nothing ever will.
That left the Omoda C5 Street seating at R329 900 making it the number two cheapest Chinese SUV on the market following the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro LitT which is seating at R279 900.

Number one spot is Chery Tiggo 4 Pro: The starting price is at R279 900.
This compact SUV is a best-seller due to its competitive pricing and well-equipped interior. It includes features like touchscreen infotainment, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
Second spot goes to Omoda C5 Street. A nice SUV with standard features including 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, push-button start and rear parking sensors.
Third spot goes to Haval Jolion with the starting price of R345 950.
It’s stylish and spacious, known for its modern design and advanced features like adaptive cruise control and a large infotainment system.
Fourth spot goes to BAIC’s Beijing X55 which starts from R429 900. This SUV boasts a sleek design and a host of tech options, making it a strong contender in the budget-friendly SUV segment.
At fifth spot comes the GWM Steed 5: Well this one is a bakkie, but worth touching on as it starts at R305 950 and offers practicality and durability, appealing to those who need versatility on a budge.
