MORE AFFORDABLE JAECOO J5 INTRODUCED IN SA

EVER looked at the car, liked the design, liked how it manouvres but your excitement got dashed when you realized that it’s a big, expensive car?

I’m sure a lot of people experienced that when Jaecoo first hit SA market, it debuted with a much bigger and expensive car. You actually had to pay close to R7 000 in monthly instalments.

This is why there will be joy for many to learn that at the 2025 Shanghai International Auto Show, the more affordable all-new JAECOO J5 was revealed.

It is a striking new crossover that expands the brand’s presence with a more accessible and compact offering.

Positioned below the J7, the more compact J5 brings the Jaecoo marque within reach of South Africans seeking a premium SUV experience at a more accessible price point.

Although smaller in size, the J5 keeps the high levels of luxury, safety and convenience that have come to define the brand.

Power comes from a responsive 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 115 kW and 230 Nm of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) driving the front wheels.

Drive modes to select from include ‘Normal,’ ‘Eco,’ and ‘Sport.’ the brand promises that J5 lineup will grow to accommodate plug-in hybrid and battery-electric derivatives.

“The JAECOO J5 represents the next chapter for our brand in South Africa,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

“It brings the same premium quality and design sophistication that our customers expect, now in a more compact and attainable package,” said Gahagan.

Jump inside the J5, you find the first-class wireless charging, voice command functionality, and a panoramic sunroof. Options include leather upholstery and many other luxuries, from automatic climate control to ambient lighting and ventilated seating.

The J5 comes equipped with collision avoidance technology, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot detection, just to name a few of the safety features.

“With its advanced safety features, versatility, and refined interior, the new J5 is designed to meet the needs of modern South Africans who want more from their daily drive,” said Gahagan.

The JAECOO J5 is expected to launch in South Africa in the second quarter of 2025.

More details, including local specifications and pricing, will be confirmed closer to the launch date.
