NEW CHINESE BRAND LEPAS HEADING TO SOUTH AFRICA

SOUTH AFRICAN motorists are in for treat.

LEPAS, a rising automotive brand already making waves internationally, is preparing to enter the local market with its flagship SUV, the L8, following a successful global debut at Indonesia’s Jakarta International Auto Show (GIIAS).

At GIIAS, LEPAS made a bold impression with a lifestyle-inspired runway show and the unveiling of its full product lineup: the L8, L6, and L4.

Designed for fashion-forward drivers, the brand positions itself around the philosophy of “exquisite travel”, moving beyond functional vehicles to create cars that embody life aesthetics.

The L8, the brand’s newest energy SUV, showcases what LEPAS calls “Leopard Aesthetics”—a design language blending sleek silhouettes, distinctive light clusters, and meticulous detailing.

Inside, the cabin combines comfort and intelligence, with a skyline-inspired layout, premium textures, and cutting-edge tech features aimed at global urban elites. Reports from Indonesia suggest the L8 may later integrate Chery Group’s Super Hybrid System (CSH), boosting its efficiency and versatility.

LEPAS benefits from the backing of Chery Group, one of China’s most successful automotive exporters. By July 2025, Chery’s exports surpassed 5 million units, securing its place as the number-one Chinese passenger car exporter for consecutive years and landing it at 233rd on the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list, up 152 spots from the previous year.

With a strong focus on R&D and innovation, Chery provides LEPAS with global resources in design, manufacturing, supply chains, and sales networks—ensuring quality and competitiveness.

The global showcase in Jakarta was more than just a car reveal. It was a statement of intent. Attended by Indonesian officials, media, and dealers, the event also unveiled LEPAS’ sponsorship of Miss Universe Indonesia, underlining its ambition to blend automotive excellence with lifestyle and culture.

Now, the focus shifts to South Africa. LEPAS will officially launch locally in early 2026, with the flagship L8 SUV spearheading the rollout. The compact L4 and midsize L6 are expected to follow, giving South African buyers a full range of options.

With bold styling, premium interiors, and advanced hybrid technology, LEPAS is setting its sights on redefining the premium SUV experience in South Africa—combining elegance, innovation, and lifestyle appeal in a way that few brands have done before.
