IN a move that’s as bold as his music, Maskandi sensation Khuzani “King Khuba” Mpungose has turned heads once again—this time not with a chart-topping hit, but with a high-powered symbol of success.
The award-winning artist recently took delivery of a Land Rover Defender 130 D350 HSE R-Dynamic from Jaguar Land Rover Menlyn, stepping into the driver’s seat of one of the most commanding vehicles on the road.
For Khuba, this isn’t just a new ride—it’s a statement.

“People have taken Maskandi music to another level and with this car, I just wanted to thank them,” said the proud owner.
His words reflect not only gratitude but the evolution of a music genre long overlooked by mainstream media and car culture alike.
The Defender D350 is no ordinary SUV—it’s a beast. With a starting price tag of R1 870 700 and reaching up to R2 029 100, it redefines what’s possible for a Maskandi artist once marginalized by the industry.

Khuzani is now the first in his genre to cruise in such a luxury powerhouse, a milestone he attributes directly to his loyal fanbase.
“If fans support you to the level of buying a big car and big mansion, you should do that,” Khuba told CarTrends. “If you don’t, they won’t know that they are supporting you good enough.”
Under the hood, the Defender D350 packs a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine, twin-turbocharged to deliver an impressive 257 kW and a torque peak of 700 N.m.
Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive, it’s engineered for both rugged terrains and refined city cruising.
Khuba raved about its features: “On gravel roads, it adjusts and lifts itself up. It’s so comfortable. There are screens for everyone in the car. We could be four and each person can watch or listen to whatever they want.”
And the driving experience? “When you’re seated in this car, it’s like you’re on a King’s throne,” he said. “Even when it moves, you feel nothing. A real King’s experience.”
To aspiring musicians, Khuba offered words of wisdom: “Be patient, don’t rush things. It will all come in good time.” He believes success in music is a blend of talent, divine gifting, and luck.
“You must pray to God to help you. If it’s meant for you, it will happen.”
With his powerful ride and a humble heart, Khuba thanked his fans and promised to keep delivering the very best of Maskandi.

And with every kilometre he drives in his new Defender—backed by a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan and warranty—he takes Maskandi music along for the ride into uncharted territory.
