Enter the Fiat TRIS, a newly introduced electric three-wheeler designed with urban mobility and practicality in mind. And here’s the exciting part, it’s coming to South Africa.
Compact and capable, the TRIS measures just 3.17 metres in length, with a tight 3.05 metre turning radius, making it ideal for navigating narrow city streets. It offers a 2.25 square metre load space, perfectly sized for a standard euro pallet, and an RCE-homologated payload capacity of 540 kg.
The name “TRIS” is inspired by three core elements: Its three wheels, modular design and a distinctive three-light LED front arrangement.
Under the body, the TRIS is powered by a 6.9 kWh lithium battery and a 48-volt electric motor delivering a peak power of 9 kW and 45 Nm of torque. This setup provides a practical range of 90 km (WMTC) and a top speed of 45 km/h — ideal for city deliveries.
Charging is a breeze with its built-in smart charging system. You can go from 0 to 80% in 3.5 hours, and reach a full charge in just 4 hours and 40 minutes using a standard household plug.
The TRIS is available in three configurations:
• Pick-Up: Ready to go, no modifications needed
• Flat Bed and Chassis Cabin: Customisable via Fiat Professional’s certified partners or by customers themselves
Despite its three-wheel layout, stability is no issue. Fiat has equipped it with a wide-track rear axle, extended wheelbase, and 12-inch tyres to keep it balanced and roadworthy.
Inside, you’ll find a 5.7-inch digital display cluster with key driving info like battery level and distance-to-empty. It also includes a USB-C port and 12V socket to keep your devices powered, plus thoughtful storage options — including a 3-litre glovebox and optional storage nets.
While Fiat South Africa has not confirmed an official launch date, one thing’s for sure: when the TRIS lands, it could be a game-changer for small businesses across the country.
