THE TOYOTA Hilux consistently tops the monthly best-seller charts in South Africa.
And with the introduction of the new Hilux Legend 55 special edition, it’s set to further solidify its dominant position in the local market.
As its name suggests, the “Legend” truly lives up to its title.
This bakkie is a South African favourite — tough, powerful, and now more refined than ever.
The Legend 55 made its public debut at Toyota’s State of the Motoring Industry event earlier this year, and it now officially goes on sale across the country.
The Legend 55 celebrates 55 years of Toyota’s presence in South Africa, and comes with a range of commemorative and exclusive features.
It is available in four variants, split between 4×2 and 4×4 configurations, in both Xtra Cab and Double Cab body styles.
Under the bonnet, all Legend 55 models feature Toyota’s well-known 2.8-litre GD-6 turbo-diesel engine, delivering 150kW of power and a robust 500Nm of torque. Power is sent to either the rear or all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
Fuel consumption is rated at a respectable 8.0l/100km, and the vehicle is certified to tow up to 3,500kg while carrying a payload of 775kg in the load bay.
This special-edition Hilux stands out with its distinctive styling and upgraded features which include: new sports bar, Tow bar, Rubberised load bay, Underbody bash plate, Lockable roller shutter, Unique puddle lamps that project the Legend 55 logo onto the ground when the doors open, the 55th anniversary plaque in the centre console and the Special Legend 55 branding on the scuff plates and front seat headrests.
To complement its bold appearance, the bakkie also features LED headlights, side steps, 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres, mud flaps, and flared black wheel arches that seamlessly integrate with the front fog lamp surrounds.
Inside, the Legend 55 offers a premium experience, with features including: Keyless entry and start, Leather multifunction steering wheel, Leather upholstery, Automatic climate control, 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, JBL premium sound system, Adaptive cruise control, Front and rear parking sensors, and a Reverse camera.
