EARLY this year, Automotive Business Council-Naamsa predicted that this year was going to be a good year for car sales.
And already, that prediction is coming to life.
Naamsa revealed car sales stats for April and they are positive, with Toyota topping the sales once more.
2025-A GOOD YEAR TO BUY A NEW CAR
According to the auto motive, new car sales experienced double-digit growth in South Africa.
The total number of new cars sold in the domestic market was 42 401, an increase of 11. 9% (4 502 units) from the 37 899 cars sold in April 2024.
The new passenger car market saw even bigger growth, with 30 101 new cars sold, an increase of 16.9% (4 350 cars) compared to the 25 751 new cars sold in April 2024.
Despite the growth locally, export sales declined, with only 31 822 units exported in April 2025, a decrease of 6.6% (2 266 units) compared to the 34 088 cars exported in April 2024.
The top 10 brands that sold the most cars locally in April 2025 are:
Toyota – 10 363 units
Suzuki – 5 977 units
Volkswagen – 3 973 units
Hyundai – 3 007 units
Ford – 2 398 units
GWM – 1 943 units
Chery – 1 852 units
Isuzu – 1 383 units
Renault – 1 281 units
Mahindra – 1 278 units
