THIS must be good news for all those looking for passenger cars in South Africa.
This after another Chinese brand, Dongfeng, has found a new home in our market and quickly launched a fully electric passenger car, named Box.
Box was launched in Edenvale, Joburg on Thursday – 12 December – with its retail operations scheduled to begin early next year.

Box will be distributed locally by a company called E Auto Motor.
Dongfeng will kick off its local operations with this fully electric compact hatch, which is 4 030 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2 660 mm. The car is powered by a 42, 3 kW lithium iron phosphate battery pack with a reasonable range of about 430 km.
It generates 70 kW and 160 Nm, while its top speed is pegged at 140 kph.
The fully electric Box features frameless windows.
Pricing for this model has not yet been announced but Cartrends will update this article as soon as the announcement is made.
Hot on the heels of launching Box in South Africa, Dongfeng said it will soon follow with the launch of two more products in the country namely -the 007 and a still-to-be-revealed SUV known only by its internal name, S32, at present.
